What is Custom-made CNC Machined Parts Sample Fee?

In our reception work at Etone Technology, we often received the questions about Sample Fee from our customers: Aren't CNC machined parts samples free? Why is the sample fee so high? You said the samples are free when you introduce the products?
We know many customers have these kind of questions, and these questions are normal. As we know, we are major in We specially customize high precision metal parts, CNC milled parts, CNC turned parts, customized screws, nuts, standoffs and metal parts, which means our samples are not in stock, every piece is individually produced for you, right?
Second, the production process of samples is the same as our mass production process, they all need : confirming details with customers - drawing the drawings (3D files & PDF files) - confirming drawings with customer - buying materials - computer programming - debugging machines (these two steps take 3-7 workdays depending on the difficulty of the product) - sample size measurement and production - sample testing and passing - surface treatment - QC testing and passing - making test report - packaging - shipping... This means that our basic production costs are almost the same, we also need to pay more labor costs for the sample alone, so no supplier couldn't earn money from the sample production and even a loss...
Here, some people may have a question: why do you make samples for customers without good profits? We couldn't ignore the importance of samples, because they could help our customer to test the material and the sizes to see if it's workable for their products, but also a chance to show our service and quality to our customers ,then we will be trusted by customers and get bigger and bigger orders from our customers, right?
You need pay sample fee and shipping fee. The CNC machined parts sample fee can be refunded when the order is placed, so the sample is free.
