Benefits of Citizen Sliding Head Lathes

A sliding headstock CNC lathe is a highly versatile machine that is designed for efficient and accurate production, with fast cycle times.

Key Advantages:

Accurate – Sliding Headstock Automatic lathes are known for their extreme accuracy and precision.  They can machine thousands of parts to a very tight tolerance and maintain that tolerance throughout the production run.

Production – Sliding Headstock Automatic Lathes produce completed parts by loading material into a bar loader and the machine then automatically loads the material through the guide bushing where is it pushed out to be machined.  The Engineering of the Part is controlled by the CAM Setup and the Turning Tools. When the part is complete, it is ejected into a container.

Small Parts – Sliding Headstock Lathes were specifically designed to produce small parts that traditional lathes would not be capable of machining.

Multiple Operations – Sliding Headstock Automatic Lathes can engage the material with multiple tools at once allowing for complex operations.  This also dramatically reduces the time required to manufacture the part.

Applications of Citizen Sliding Head Lathes

Citizen sliding head lathes are useful for producing several products, including:

  • Shafts
  • Dowel Pins
  • Spacers
  • Implants
  • Fasteners
  • Inserts
  • And more
If you're looking to create a custom product through the precision of a CNC lathe, our team can help.

Materials We Work With

Aluminum At a Glance

A commonly used metal in manufacturing across many industries, aluminium is lightweight yet strong and corrosion-resistant. We mill aluminium components using specialist CNC milling or CNC turning techniques to provide durability and performance strength.

Stainless Steel At a Glance

Stainless steel parts provide excellent machinability, workability, and uniformity, and are resistant to corrosion and oxidation. We mill stainless steel components using specialist CNC machining techniques to provide high resistance to corrosion and wear.

Alloy Steel At a Glance

Alloy steels contain other alloying elements in addition to carbon, resulting in improved hardness, toughness, fatigue and wear resistance. Hardness, toughness and wear resistance properties make alloy steel a versatile metal for machined components.

Brass At a Glance

Brass is a metal alloy with good machinability and excellent electrical conductivity. Ideal for applications that require low friction. Well rounded properties make brass a versatile metal for machined components.

Copper At a Glance

Copper is well known for its electrical and thermal conductivity. It is very resistant to corrosion and is also inherently antimicrobial.  Electrical, thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance properties make copper a versatile metal for machined components.

Bronze At a Glance

Bronze is made by mixing copper with up to approximately 35% tin and up to 8% lead. The inclusion of lead alloy, which is a soft metal, is what makes it so machinable. High strength, good wear and corrosion resistance properties make bronze a versatile metal for machined components.

POM At a Glance

POM offers high wear resistance, low friction, and overall durability and toughness. Its high wear resistance combined with excellent creep and warp resistance make it a good material option for mechanical components and industrial products.

Surface Finishing Options

Anodizing

Anodizing is an electrical processes that infuses the color into the material and creates beautiful shades of color. Anodized metal parts effectively increase corrosion resistance, , and also enhancing visual qualities and keeping the surface from being scratched.

As Machined

As machined parts—or parts that come right off the machine—have minor visible tool marks and a standard surface roughness (Ra) is 3.2 μm. Surface finish requirements can be increased to 1.6, 0.8 and 0.4 μm.

Bead Blasting

Applicable materials: all metals.

Bead Blasting is a reliable practice to prepare a metal surface for bonding, adhesion, insert molding, painting, or other coating tasks or to achieve a specific surface texture. This process is also used to remove burrs or edge profiling on parts and components.

Plating

Plating is the perfect way to improve the look of the products you produce, while also inhibiting corrosion, reducing friction, shielding them from interference and more.

Powder Coating

Powder coating adds a wear- and corrosion-resistant finish to the surface of the parts. It has higher impact resistance compared to anodizing, comes with a large range of colors, and can be applied to any metal.

Black Oxide

Applicable on steels, black oxide is a conversion coating used to improve corrosion resistance and minimize light reflection.

Polishing

Parts are manually polished in multiple directions. Surface is smooth and slightly reflective.

Brushing

Brushing is a surface treatment process in which abrasive belts are used to draw unidirectional traces on the surface of a material for aesthetic purposes.

Electropolishing

Electropolishing creates a clean surface, best for parts that need to be smooth at a microscopic level.

Smooth Machining

Smooth machining is best for precise parts where the surface roughness needs to be fine, but is not suitable for customer-facing products.

Passivation

Passivation is a widely-used metal finishing process to prevent corrosion.

Tumbling

Tumbling is a finishing process that is used to clean, deburr, and slightly smooth smaller parts.

Painting

Painting involves spraying a layer of paint onto the surface of the part. Colors can be matched to a Pantone color number of the customer’s choosing, while finishes range from matte to gloss to metallic.

Heat Treating

Heat treating allows a metal piece to be improved in order for the material to better withstand wear and tear. Heat treatment involves heating a metal or alloy to a specific temperature and then cooling it to harden the material.
